153. Will your treatment require more sessions than will be covered by managed care?

This answer depends on your managed care coverage. Some managed care plans do not have a maximum number of sessions per year, but many plans will only provide for 20 sessions per year, regardless of the severity or type of problem.

Some plans also make a strong effort to limit the total number of sessions provided, while others realistically assess treatment needs. Research suggests that about 75% of individuals complete treatment in six months. Assuming weekly sessions, six  months of treatment will be about 26 sessions. So if your plan limits the number of sessions per year to 20 sessions or less, then approximately 25% of those in treatment under that plan will require more sessions than will be covered by that managed care plan.
