What can I do if I don't have insurance and can't afford the psychologist's fee?

Most psychologists are willing to slide their fee when presented with a reasonable request. If your insurance does not cover psychological treatment, or if you choose not to use managed care coverage, and do not have an out of network option, most psychologists will adjust their fee to your financial situation.

Every psychologist evaluates these requests individually, so there is no set guideline you can follow, but please do not hesitate to discuss financial issues with your psychologist when starting treatment. However, this does not mean that the cost of psychological  treatment is negotiable, like buying a car. Most psychologists have set fees, but make exceptions when extenuating circumstances exist.
