Psychological Services I Provide

Orientation to treatment:

I follow an electic model, using cognitive-behavioral and
psychodynamic techniques.  The person's dreams, as well as his or her associations to ideas and images in the dreams, are used to help expand his/her vision and become aware of thoughts, feelings or attitudes that were out of awareness.

Individual psychotherapy: ages 16 to senior citizen

Each session is of 45 minutes in length, usually once a week, but more if necessary

Group psychotherapy: ages 25 to senior citizen

Groups are mixed gender and composed of people with different problems.  They provide the stimulus and challenge necessary to continue personal growth.  Dreams are used in the same way as in individual sessions.  I am an active participant in the group, as opposed to a more distant "facilitator."

Couples psychotherapy

Couples work is usually brief and focused on concrete issues.  The goal is to provide a safe setting for constructive communication in a problem-solving mode.  Each partner is encouraged to become expert in the ways he or she helps create the roadblocks in the relationship.

Evaluations:

  • Personality
  • Cognitive and intellectual function
  • Disability Determination Services (usually requested by Social Security)
  •

    Consultation:

Inservice training to nursing home facilities

I am a participant in most managed care panels, including Medicare and Medicaid.
